    3. Embrace the sand, it will be everywhere, including in your tent.

Food too was great. We ate at a different location every day and had different foods each evening at camp, they even had glutenfree and vegetarian for whoever needed that. I preferred the real food :), but was nonetheless impressed, that they paid attention to things like that.

Here is why I whole-heartedly and passionately recommend this tour company above any other (if you don't need any more convincing based on other reviews and the unanimous 5-star ratings, please skip ahead to my practical tips):

We've just come back from our K'gari 3 day camping trip, and it has literally required going through our hundreds of pictures to actually remember all of the epic, awesome, beautiful and adventurous things we saw and did on this tour.

    5. If basic camping is totally up your alley, I would hands-down recommend the 3 day camping tour. If showers and real beds are more appealing to you, then I would recommend the 2 day.

    4. The people who choose Dropbear must be the best of the backpacking, touristing, traveling bunch - literally everyone young and old was low-maintenance, open-minded, curious, and fun-spirited!

    3. Troy was hands down the best tour guide I have ever had. (And based on the many reviews here, it sounds like he is not even unique in this amongst Drop Bear's other guides!). Whether it was support for the drivers who were new to 4x4 sand driving, strategically and spontaneously planning our day to avoid crowds and rain, looking out for any wildlife and unique things to show us, or sharing a plethora of information and stories in always such an authentic and engaging way - Troy had it all going on! It was an incredible privilege to be shown around by a local who grew up in the area, knows all of the best spots, and is so passionate about sharing this unique island with all of us tourists. THANK YOU!

    4. Bring your own snacks, because it was kinda nice to snack on the drives between meals, and you do work up an appetite. That said, the food was plentiful and delicious!

I have been in a bus before when this sort of thing has happened and been almost thrown out of my seat. The 4WD driver put passengers at risk by his arrogant actions and there is no way that I would risk my safety or that of my family with this company if this is the standard of their drivers.

    2. This wasn't just a tour that facilitated our travel around the island by bringing us to the many beautiful sights, this was a tour that educated us and provided us with the history, context, and information necessary in order to fully appreciate the many beautiful things we saw. I was especially appreciative of the respect shown to the Butchella people, who were the original inhabitants of this island. I feel like we were introduced to the island primarily from their perspective, and that made this tour extra special.

John is a great guy and he knows his way around the island.

While visiting some of the locations on the island, we crossed paths with a bunch of other tours and everytime, I thought to myself, wow, am I happy I choose this tour. Others were on large busses, being driven around like sardines, while we were 4-6 people per vehicule and took turns every 30-45 minutes so that everyone of us got to drive by them selves. Driving along the beach, with the ocean to the right of you and wild dingos walking to the left is just plain awesome and definitely something you do not want to miss.

I looked at different operators and the actual program is more or less the same: Lake Wabby, Eli's Creek, Maheno shipwreck, Lake McKenzie. So I wanted to figure out, which would be the best overall experience.

I was travelling the East Coast for 6 weeks. After having been to Airlie Beach, sailing & fishing the Whitsunday Islands, being to Noosa and many other great places, I planned on staying on Frazer Island for a 3 day trip.

Was on the bus platform in Noosa today and witnessed a disgusting display of redneck driving by one of the Dropbear 4WDs. The bus had given plenty of indication before it pulled out into the road. The driver of the 4WD approaching from the rear appeared to not take any notice until the last moment when it swerved violently across the road with it's horn blasting. When it got past the bus it swerved back in front of it causing the bus to brake heavily.

    1. Don't over pack! We were in bathing suits and flip flops every day, might have thrown a sweater on to sit around at night.. Definitely pack bug spray and a light towel that will dry quickly in the sun.

    2. I probably wouldn't count on a shower, there is one there if you're desperate though, and you do have the opportunity to swim in clean, fresh water every day.

As I said I was on the platform and had a clear view of the entire incident. The 4WD driver had no excuse to have not seen the bus about to pull out and as far as I am aware it is the law that he give way to a bus in this circumstance.

Our tour guide Troy was just plane awesome. Seriously, and I know this might sound biased, but it is not, I have never before had a tour guide that was so much in love with his own country and wanted to show everyone on tour what a great place K'Gari (the abboriginal name of Fraser Island) is.

My only other thought is that even the 3 days didn't feel like enough! I wanted more, and maybe there's a way to add on extra days at the beach retreat in order to return to your favourite spots again on your own (I could have easily spent a whole day at Lake McKenzie!)

I had the best time with dropbear. Got picked up in rainbow beach and got dropped of in Noosa. I even got help by the guide to which hostel to book in Noosa. On the island we was well informed about the day and the day after. Good balanced meals and great stories. Fantastic beds.

    1. Not only did Troy strategically beat the crowds every step of the way (even during busy school holidays), but he also managed to dodge most of the rain, and pack in extra special bits of adventure so that every moment of our 3 days was absolutely FULL of excitement and exploring.

    PRACTICAL TIPS:

The campsite was great! We were just off the ocean, so at night, you could hear the waves break. There were wild Dingos nearby and some even came quite close to camp, but we were all given a great briefing on how to preserve and protect the dingos in their natural habitat and avoiding direct contact keeping us and the dingos safe.

Fraser Island was by far the coolest experience of my East Coast travel and I can whole heartedly recommend DropBear for this journey, seriosly, you will not forget this journey. If you prefer being in a Hotel and travelling in a large bus, then there might be other more suitable options out there for you. But if you are up for an adventure, driving a wild island by yourself, meeting other cool openminded people, sleeping at the beach, watching the stars like you have never seen them before then this one is for you. Enjoy!

Just back from a 3d/2n trip. John was our guide and it was GREAT.

What convinced me, was the selfdriving of 4WD LandCruisers and actuall camping on the island. Other operators offered hotel rooms or offsite lodges for sleeping, but I had been staying at Hotels/Hostels throughout my trip anyhow, so I thought, if I'm already going to an island, I might as well make it as authentic as possible.

So to wrap this up. I ended up extending my stay by 3 more nights, just because Fraser Island is so beautifull. I stayed with DropBear again, because the owners Mark and Hana, really put a lot of effort into making everyone feel great and you can really tell, this is a business driven by passion and the love for N'Gari, rather than a large unpersonal corporate endeavour.
